My preferred language is PHP and perhaps that is why I am most proficient at it. I would say that over 90% of the custom web design i do is PHP. A couple of other languages go hand in hand with PHP programming. HTML is the language of the internet. It is the language that you browser understands. MYSQL is the other language that goes hand-in-hand with PHP. MYSQL is a database utility.
Well written PHP/MYSQL sites are easily found and indexed by the major search engines and more importantly are easy to update. They also provide a great deal more usefulness to the end user that the majority of sites that don't use these types of technologies.
